Abstract
ElZapotalisaNatural-ProtectedArea(NPA)thatpreservesthelastpatchesofthesub-evergreenforestofthecentralvalleysofChiapas,México;therearespeciesofnativefloraandfauna.Theobjectivewastoidentifytheperception,TraditionalEcologicalKnowledge(TEK),andtheusesthattheinhabitantsoftheareasurroundingthisNPAmakeofthelocal/nativefloraandfauna.Theresearchusestwotoolsoftheethnographicmethod:participantobservationandsemi-structuredinterview;17keyactorsparticipatedusingthesnowballtechnique.TheintervieweeshaveapositiveperceptionoftheNPA;theydemonstratedthattheyknowdifferentspeciesoffloraandfauna(distribution,feeding,behavior),althoughthisknowledgeisnotdeepduetothecontrolandisolationoftheNPA.Finally,theyusesomespeciesoffloraandfaunaforfood,medicine,orfirewood.
