Abstract
This paper presents a multi-ring octagonal-element multiple-input/multiple-output antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The dimensions of each element in the proposed antenna are 52 &times; 88 &times; 1.67 mm<sup>3</sup>. It features a triangular partial ground plane and integrated multi-ring patches. Comparative evaluation of two designs-one with isolation structures and the other without isolation structures- showed superior performance in the former, thus minimizing mutual coupling and enhancing diversity. Important measurements obtained were a diversity gain of more than 9 and less than 10, peak gain of 6.76 dB, mutual coupling that was continuously below -20 dB, and envelope correlation coefficient value of less than 0.5, making the antenna well-suited for various UWB communication systems. The suggested antenna design's ability to achieve excellent isolation, wide bandwidth, and steady radiation patterns throughout the UWB spectrum was validated by simulation using a high-frequency structure simulator.
